Veiled Profit Ball History The following newspaper clipping was mailed to Betty by her maternal grandfather, Horace R. Coudy, in 1946. It talks about the history of St. Louis' Veiled Profit Ball and notes that Charles E. Slayback and Alonzo W. Slayback were instrumental in establishing the event. Horace notes in pencil on the clipping that these individuals were his mother's cousins. Horace's mother was Mary Margaret Seward-Coudy whose mother was Margaret Slayback-Seward. I recall mother mentioning more than once that she was a distant relative of the Veiled Profit founder(s).
